BALTIMORE, MD — Delegate Harry Bhandari joined supporters of Edu-GIRLS at its recent gala to recognize the organization’s work to expand educational opportunities for girls facing poverty and other barriers.
During his remarks, Delegate Bhandari shared the story of Divyanshi, a third-grade student featured on page nine of the event booklet. Before school, Divyanshi helps her mother carry water because her family does not have a clean water supply at home. Despite these challenges, she attends school faithfully, sits proudly on the first bench and dreams of becoming an Indian Army pilot.

“When I sat down at my table, I picked up the booklet in front of me and turned to page nine. That is where I met Divyanshi,” said Delegate Bhandari. “Her story reminds us that behind every statistic is a child, behind every contribution is a possibility and behind every opportunity may be a future teacher, doctor, scientist, entrepreneur or pilot.”
Delegate Bhandari also praised Edu-GIRLS for helping girls gain access to education and opportunities that can change the course of their lives, their families and their communities.
“America is at its best not simply because of what we possess, but because of what we are willing to share: our generosity, our compassion and our belief in human possibility,” Bhandari said. “Education can transform not only one girl’s life, but an entire generation.”

Delegate Bhandari presented a Governor’s Citation recognizing Edu-GIRLS for its commitment to educating and empowering girls.
He concluded his remarks by asking attendees to remember Divyanshi and the many girls whose dreams depend on access to education.
“Today she may be carrying water before school. Tomorrow, she may be carrying wings. Together, we can help her soar.”
