Delegate Bhandari Meets with Cricket Association of Nepal Officials Ahead of T20 World Cup Game

Baltimore, MD (June 4, 2024) – Over the weekend, Maryland State Delegate and Chair of the Maryland Asian American Legislative Caucus, Harry Bhandari, had the honor of meeting Padam Bahadur Khadka, Treasurer of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). The CAN officials are in the United States for Nepal’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 participation. “Also in attendance were Pravin Khadka, President of Saathi Baltimore, Utsab Sigdel, cricket player/CAO of Lumbini All-Stars, Anup Khanal, NRNA leader, and other community leaders.” During the meeting, Treasurer Khadka presented Delegate Bhandari with the official jersey of the Nepal cricket team. Delegate Bhandari, the first Nepali American state legislator in the USA, expressed his enthusiasm for Nepal’s involvement in the T20 World Cup. He noted the cultural significance of cricket in South Asia, akin to football’s popularity in America.

Delegate Harry Bhandari remarked, “It is a momentous occasion to see Nepal on the global cricket stage again. This highlights the passion for cricket in our community and strengthens our cultural ties here in the USA. I am proud to support our team and wish them the best in the tournament. Receiving the official jersey is an honor and symbolizes our shared pride and commitment.”

Padam Bahadur Khadka, Treasurer of the Cricket Association of Nepal, stated, “This tournament is a significant milestone for Nepal Cricket. We are grateful for the support from the Nepali community in the USA, and meetings like this reinforce the strong bond between our nations. Presenting Delegate Bhandari with our official jersey is a gesture of our appreciation and unity.”

Nepal will face the Netherlands in the opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at 11:30 AM today at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. This game marks Nepal’s return to the T20 World Cup after a decade, bringing hope and enthusiasm to fans and players alike.
